The steel reinforcing of the apron is perfectly adequate for major road use, as it simply acts to transmit any wheel loads through to the compacted sub-base layers.
Our Low-Profile Lintel is well suited to the mountable kerbs in many new development areas, as well as matching many older Catch-Pit styles. The Low-Profile Lintel can be used instead of the standard height Lintel, where the relevant authority permits.
To determine if the inlet drain is a “Left” or “Right” type, imagine yourself standing on the footpath above the drain apron looking towards the road. If the inlet pit is under your left side it is a “Left Hand” installation. If under your right side it is “Right Hand”. Drain inlet grates should be at the end of the apron furthest down the gradient. Where the drain is at the lowest point in a roadway – for example at the bottom of a hill – a “Centre” grate inlet or SAG type is normally selected.
A range of galvanised steel grates are available to meet the requirements of many local or traffic authorities. These must be cast into the concrete apron at the factory. Please confirm the applicable regulations for the project where the Road Gully unit is to be installed BEFORE ordering the product.
